Hey John! I agree that people will respond badly to unjustified favoritism in scheduling. If one person weaker on the phone, then you might try just letting them know that call volumes dictate that you set the schedule with an eye toward having your strongest phone people on duty when they have the greatest opportunity to play to their strengths. Then you have a reason for setting the schedule the way you are.

Most of my Saturday employees are part-time and they know they will be working Saturdays when I hire them. For those full-time employees who work Saturdays I try to arrange the schedule so that they still get two consecutive days off, usually Sunday and Monday.

I'll be publishing a post soon about my approach to giving feedback to my employees (not the "sandwich" method, and much more effective). Everyone wants to know where they stand. I think that could help you with your problem of everyone thinking they should be treated equally when it comes to scheduling.

I like your comment about getting your top selling people working Mondays but how do you deal with the fact that the poor performing ones don't want to work more Saturdays than other people?

Rollover call centers are great. Typically, they'll offer a special before they require you to make any sort of long term commitment, so you can figure out whether or not you are going to like what they have to offer.
